Germany’s best young dressage horses came together in Warendorf this week for the first selection for the World Championships for Young Dressage Horses in Verden at the beginning of August. One of the dominant stallions in the sires’ pedigrees: Escolar from the stallion station Gut Neuenhof.
The four-legged talents will have to undergo the strict gaze of an assessment panel twice in Warendorf, which included Grand Prix judge Ulrike Nivelle, her colleague Reinhard Richenhagen and national trainer Monica Theodorescu at the first round. Almost 50 five-, six- and seven-year-olds were recommended for the second inspection, including eight with Escolar on the sire’s side of their pedigree.
The top sire from the stallion station Gut Neuenhof provided the largest contingent of six-year-olds with six direct or indirect offspring. The most prominent of these was probably the two-time Bundeschampionat silver medal winner Endorphin FRH under Greta Heemsoth. Once again, the licensed stallion by Escolar, bred by Ingo Pape and out of a Don Nobless dam, impressed across the board.
The majority of the “E horses” that were not directly descended from Escolar were his son Escamillo, whose dam is in the mare herd at Gut Neuenhof stud. These include, for example, the record sport test winner Erste Sahne, who now belongs to Lisa and Thomas Müller from Gut Wettlkam.
The second selection for the World Championship aspirants will also take place in Warendorf on July 15. Germany can nominate eight horses per age group. The World Championships for Young Dressage Horses themselves will be held in Verden again until 2027, having been hosted by Ermelo in the Netherlands in recent years. The date for 2025 is the weekend of August 4-10.
