The spring auction of the Westphalian Studbook has a special horse on offer in 2026: Bentheim NRW.
On April 19, 2026, horse connoisseurs will have an opportunity that doesn’t come around that often: Bentheim NRW will be sold at the Westphalian Studbook’s spring auction. The now five-year-old Belvedere DB son, bred by Jürgen de Baey, not only comes from the successful Westphalian Dodona line (Ahlerich, Rembrandt, Rubinstein …), he also has the qualities that this family stands for. He already proved this at a young age when he became Westphalian and Bundeschampion as a three-year-old and defended his Westphalian title as a four-year-old.
Sandra Schürner discovered Bentheim NRW as a two-year-old and secured him for the Gut Neuenhof stallion station. He successfully competed for licensing in Münster-Handorf in 2023. However, Bentheim NRW only revealed his full quality under the rider. His active hind leg, his natural balance and his willingness to perform make him something special.
Bentheim NRW is now for sale for the following reason: he had to be castrated due to a twisted testicle and is therefore only available to the Gut Neuenhof stallion station via TG semen. As the Gut Neuenhof stallion station is not a sport stable, he is to be passed on to supporting hands that will do justice to his talent.
Sandra Schürner says: “Bentheim NRW has everything you could wish for in a dressage horse. He offers piaffe and passage in such a way that as a rider you have to control yourself not to accept it from the five-year-old. This is simply anchored in his lineage. As breeders and stallion owners, we were very sad that we had to put him down. But he will be a fantastic sport horse for his new owners.”
Breeders’ hearts are all the heavier in view of the foals of far above-average quality that have emerged from Bentheim NRW’s first crop. Sandra Schürner’s hope is therefore: “If there are breeders who have colts by Bentheim that they consider suitable for licensing – we would be very interested in putting up a son by him!”
