The German Equestrian Federation (FN) has published the new breeding value estimates. Escolar continues to lead the field in show jumping and is also among the top one percent of all active dressage sires in Germany in the other two disciplines.
The evaluation of the data of 652,000 dressage horses from the past season showed once again: If you want to win ribbons, breed with Escolar! The Westphalian Estobar NRW son, who was Bundeschampion as a three- and four-year-old and was later a member of the German Olympic squad with his trainer Hubertus Schmidt, is the best among the top one percent of all dressage stallions with FN-registered offspring in competition for the sixth time. These top one percent had a breeding value of at least 155, while Escolar’s is 179 with 93 percent certainty.
The fact that Escolar is almost certain to pass on his own talents is also shown by the breeding value assessments for young horse tests and the highest class achieved.
Brief background: The FN breeding value assessments are divided into three categories – young horse tests, competition sport and highest achieved class (HEK) in national and international sport. To calculate the breeding value, for which the genetic potential is particularly relevant, the stallions’ own performance is used on the one hand and the results of their offspring and relatives on the other. The more data available, the greater the certainty, expressed as a percentage, that the stallion will pass on the qualities expressed in the breeding value.
In the young horse tests, the stallions are among the top one percent of sires with a breeding value of 149 and better. Escolar has a breeding value of 158 with a certainty of 98 percent. In terms of HEK breeding value, the top one percent of stallions have a breeding value of 185 and better. Escolar’s is 189 with a reliability of 95 percent.
